The city's downtown plan is a long-term, city-led planning initiative that will establish a vision and roadmap for how Downtown Monroe grows and evolves. The plan is being developed by Shook Kelley, a nationally recognized urban planning and design firm, alongside Gibbs Planning Group for retail and economic strategy and Gannett Fleming for transportation and mobility. The process officially launched in 2025 and runs through Summer 2026, with multiple rounds of public engagement built in throughout.
This is an update and expansion of the city's 2008 downtown plan, a more ambitious effort reflecting how much Monroe, NC has grown and how much more is on the way.
